THESIS PROJECT
“Pansies Have Faces” explores how design can build stories and expose secrets. I was drawn to the idea of invading a personal space and letting its unseen stories surface. To explore this curiosity, I created thirteen objects tied to three pivotal moments in a girl’s life. Each story is revealed through diary entries paired with photographs to give shape to her private world.
The main character of this story is named Pansy. Some pansies have a pattern on their petals that looks like a face staring back at you. This pansy “face” is meant to represent the person whose diary you are invading- looking at you as you’re doing it, igniting a small feeling that she is watching you read her diary.
